President of Zanzibar visits IIT Madras | 63rd Convocation | IIT Madras Zanzibar campus unveiling & book launch

The visit of H.E. Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, President of Zanzibar, to IIT Madras during its 63rd Convocation marked a significant milestone for IIT Madras Zanzibar. The occasion celebrated academic excellence while reinforcing the strong partnership between India and Zanzibar. As India's first international IIT campus, IIT Madras Zanzibar continues to expand its global impact through quality education, innovation, and research. The visit highlighted the campus's remarkable achievements and reaffirmed a shared vision of empowering future leaders through education that transcends borders. It stands as a testament to the enduring collaboration between India and Zanzibar in advancing higher education.

Short-Term Professional Course

Data Science for Epidemiology and Public Health Analytics is a 2-week intensive program commencing on 20 July 2026, designed to equip participants with essential data science skills for analyzing, interpreting, and visualizing epidemiological and public health data. Through a combination of expert lectures, hands-on laboratory sessions, and project-based learning, participants will gain practical experience in applying modern data analytics techniques to address real-world public health challenges, with a focus on evidence-based decision-making, data-driven insights, and the effective use of contemporary analytical tools in epidemiological and public health research.

Second MTech Degree Distribution Ceremony 2026

On 11 July 2025, alongside IIT Madras' 62nd Convocation, IIT Madras Zanzibar celebrated the graduation of its inaugural MTech in Data Science & AI cohort, marking the first degree distribution at India's first offshore IIT campus. Building on this milestone, the second degree distribution celebrated 19 graduates from the MTech in Data Science & AI and MTech in Ocean Structure Engineering programmes, with students from Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, Ethiopia, and India. With nearly 50% of graduates from East Africa and 30% women graduates, the ceremony reflected IIT Madras Zanzibar's growing global community and its commitment to academic excellence and international collaboration.

The Master of Technology in Ocean Structures offered at IIT Madras Zanzibar Campus will have a curriculum tailor-made to the industry needs in the Oil & Gas and Maritime sector. The program covers the basics of marine & offshore hydrodynamics, structural design for oil and gas exploration offshore platforms, ports, harbours including port structures & breakwater. The course equips students with core and elective courses to prepare them for careers in the oil & gas and maritime sectors.
